Varicose Veins

Experiencing leg fatigue? Aching pain, itching or tingling sensations near your veins? How about a sensation of pressure or heaviness in your legs? There are many symptoms of Varicose Veins, and some worsen by the day. Getting treatment early-on can save you from the elongated pain associated with your varicose veins.

What Are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins result from damage to the tiny valves within the vein walls. Once damaged, blood can no longer flow from the leg back to the heart as it normally would, resulting in stagnation of blood as it moves in two directions.

Symptoms

Commonly developed in legs and ankles, varicose veins can present themselves on other areas of the body. There are a few common factors contributing to the development of varicose veins such as; Heredity, Lifestyle + Career, Physical Activity – or lack thereof, Gender, Age and Obesity.

Common Factors

Heredity – Genetics is the most common contributing factor when it comes to varicose veins. Check in with your family members on their vascular history. If someone in your family has suffered from varicose veins, you could be in jeopardy of developing them, as well.

Lifestyle + Career/ Lack of Activity – An office job that requires you to sit long periods of time, or on the other hand – a job that requires you to stand for long periods, or a sedentary lifestyle with little physical activity can contribute to varicose veins.

Female – The risk of women suffering from varicose veins is 2-3 times more at risk than men.

Age – While varicose veins can become a problem at the age of 30, they are most common in those 50 years or older.

Pregnancy – Those expecting are in risk of developing varicose veins. With each pregnancy, the risk increases. Obesity – Extra pressure put on veins could result in varicose vein symptoms. Although some are not visible due to excess fat causing late diagnoses’, the earlier you see a specialist regarding your pain, the quicker an assessment can be put in place.
