Having grown up in New Jersey Dr. Faisal Mahmood is proud to be able to offer his spine & orthopaedic services in his home state.
Dr. Mahmood graduated from Millburn High School amongst the top in his class and then completed his undergraduate education at Johns Hopkins University where he graduated magna cum laude. While in college he was actively involved in community service, public health outreach, and orthopaedic research. Much of his research efforts were devoted to studying innovations in bone healing with the Johns Hopkins Medical School Department of Orthopaedics. Upon graduating he returned to New Jersey to complete his medical training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where he actively participated in community outreach programs and continued his commitment to orthopaedic research at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. His research efforts focused on understanding the wear patterns and increasing the longevity of total joint arthroplasties (replacements).
After completing his orthopaedic surgery residency at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center/Seton Hall University, where he published and presented research in his field at both national and international conferences, and graduated with distinction as Chief Resident, Dr. Mahmood went on to pursue further interests in spine surgery. Dr. Mahmood completed a spine fellowship at the internationally renowned Twin Cities Spine Center, where he honed his skills in minimally-invasive techniques with cutting-edge technology under the guidance of the world’s leading spine surgery experts. In addition he also researched and presented on congenital spinal deformities.
Dr. Mahmood specializes in the treatment of a myriad of Spine & Orthopaedic conditions, including disorders of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine, degenerative spinal conditions, spinal tumors, spinal trauma, and revision spinal surgery. He also specializes in treating hip and knee arthritis, sports related injuries including shoulder, hip, and knee ailments, and orthopaedic trauma.
Moreover, Dr. Mahmood continues to participate in spine and orthopaedic academic conferences as he is a strong proponent of keeping abreast with the latest advancements in the field. He is a member of the North American Spine Society, New Jersey Orthopaedic Association, and also mentors orthopaedic residents at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center/Seton Hall University.
Dr. Mahmood prides himself on his patient care and attention to detail. Each patient is treated as an individual and the appropriate treatment plan is uniquely tailored to best serve the patient. Often times many orthopaedic and spine issues can be treated without surgery and under proper care can be resolved with focused therapy and other conservative modalities.
In his free time Dr. Mahmood enjoys an active lifestyle, traveling, the outdoors, and spending time with his wife and family.
